All valid concerns and I admit that transferring to a system like this would be tough and come with plenty of challenges.

What I do know though and I’m sure you would agree that the issues plaguing the news industry are serious and systemic. It’ll take something radical to change it for the better.

To address some of your concerns, I imagine some sort of credentialing agency similar to a bar association that would independently verify the quality of an individual journalist in order to help platforms wade through the crowd a bit.

Also in my mind having a journalist and website is far cheaper than local newsroom etc. covering a small local area. As far as funding local news sustainability I think it would require a lot more investment from foundations and other agencies, but with the right mix and the right person it could possibly be sustainable.

All in all though, I think it’s important to keep talking about these issues. Surely there’s a better way to do things if we put our minds to it.
